Michael Hutchison was born in Malaysia, a son of a Gurkha officer. The influence of these early years is still present in his works today. Returning to Kent in 1957, his love of the flamboyant colours and simplistic style in capturing the mood of a landscape has remained with him.  Michael excelled at Art whilst at Wellington College in Berkshire. He trained as a teacher at the University of Sussex, Brighton and went on to teach in independent and preparatory schools, before pursuing a life time ambition of becoming an artist. Michael’s work extends beyond landscapes into portraiture, having gained valuable experience from many hours of creating portraits for visitors in Canterbury. He has since been commissioned to paint portraits of people and animals. Michael was awarded a Degree in Art from the University of Creative Arts in Canterbury and, amongst many others, has sold large works to BMW and Dover Harbour Board. Michael has exhibited extensively throughout East Kent, as well as in California and Australia. Several of his exhibitions have been to raise money for charity.
