Nowadays: Margate NOW 2020

Dates:26 September 2020 to 11 October 2020
Times:Friday – Sunday, 11am – 4pm

Margate NOW 2020 are excited to host a visual arts exhibition of students from Canterbury School of Visual Arts at Canterbury College and students from Creative Industries at Broadstairs College. They have responded to the theme Margate NOW – Margate as a place in particular, what it means to them, pulling aspects of its rich cultural identity and how a young audience engages with it. Some include feelings of this place and the enormous amount of visual stimulus from this ever changing, exciting and creative environment.

Margate NOW 2020 is a multi-disciplinary arts festival made possible thanks to public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, Kent County Council, Thanet District Council and South East Creatives.

Margate NOW 2020: Friday 25 September to Sunday 11 October 2020
Margate Festival is excited to announce the appointment of People Dem Collective as Guest Curator of Margate NOW 2020. This collaboration is a direct, urgent response to current protests and upheaval, and the beginning of an ongoing partnership. Margate Festival is acting on its expression of solidarity – acknowledging the significance of this moment and seeking to open a growing relationship and dialogue with Thanet Black, Brown & Diaspora communities.

People Dem Collective is a community group based in Margate whose mission is to “facilitate systemic change, promote healing and continue the work of our ancestors”.

“Margate Festival celebrates the best contemporary culture from Margate’s world-class creative community. Art, music, performance, written and spoken word, collective action and visual culture form a dynamic programme featuring co-commissions in the public realm and local, national and international artists. The theme NOW brings urgency and relevance.”
