Deborah’s painting practice explores how colour can become form, using gesture, simplicity and reduction to create works that hover between abstraction and recognition. Broad, deliberate brush marks replace descriptive detail, allowing colour to carry the weight of structure, atmosphere and emotion.
Rooted in observations of shifting skies, changing light and the emotional resonance of place, her paintings seek to capture fleeting moments rather than fixed images. Colour is treated as a living force—expanding, dissolving and reshaping space across the surface. Through an economy of means, a single stroke can suggest a horizon, a cloud, a memory or a passing mood.
The physical act of painting remains visible throughout, with each mark retaining a sense of movement and presence. Balancing clarity with ambiguity, Deborah’s work invites viewers into a contemplative space where colour, gesture and perception converge, and where feeling emerges before language.
