Jo Evans, AKA 100 Hours, is delighted to announce a group presentation of contemporary craft, showcasing the work of a dozen established and emerging craftspeople working on the Kent Coast.

KEEP SHOW will bring together a curated selection of artists and makers, showcasing a range of contemporary fine craft, rooted in substance, creativity and a shared ethos for materiality. This show will demonstrate traditional and innovative craft techniques, presented to a high standard and featuring no paintings. Amplifying artisanal, decorative art objects formed from natural and sustainable materials such as wood, ceramics, textiles and stone, the show will appeal to those who have an appreciation of heritage crafts and work made by hand.

“Keep offers a platform to makers with unwavering integrity, who may not have access to the heady world of high-end shows. It is run by artists who believe that authentic craftmanship should have a voice outside of the systems imposed by the exclusive and mysterious rules of the art world.” says Jo. “Each maker is committed to keeping handwork alive, we work with our own two hands and each individual piece is unique and rooted in traditional techniques.”

As we become ever more aware of the harmful materials we have been unwittingly bringing into our home, this exhibition focuses on quiet art for interiors. KEEP SHOW will highlight the creativity of those working without paint and producing work that sits beautifully within a collector’s lifestyle. Work shown will be textural and full of soul, the aim is not to challenge the observer but to instil a sense of calm and a connection to materials.

This inaugural exhibition, based in Margate, a town not short of fantastic art stories, will unveil a palette inspired by nature – sea, sand and countryside – and will present the opportunity to appreciate, buy and commission work from a selection of dedicated Kent based craftspeople.

About the Curator:

Sometime commercial space designer Jo Evans, AKA 100 Hours, creates quiet, abstract paintless paintings. With a passion for transforming natural materials into painstakingly beautiful works of decorative art, Jo’s unique textile creations have captivated audiences with their power to calm. At first glance the work is minimal, almost flat but on closer inspection oozes texture and tone. Her work is hand stitched and almost always improvised with her frames meticulously crafted by hand, to conservation and museum standards. Her artist name is a nod to the time, patience and skill required to make anything by hand, a practice so often exploited in poorer countries largely inhabited by people without white skin.
