Video still, Riverbed Stories (c) Mandy Williams 2015
River Stories, Unseen Landscapes is an exhibition by London artist Mandy Williams. Work on display will be taken from her Riverbed Stories photographs and video which document the riverbeds beside the industrial areas of Erith, South London and Dartford, Kent, and show the environmental damage to these places of natural beauty. Photographs from this series have previously been shown at the RWA Bristol, Kinsale Arts Festival, Ireland, and the Deptford X Fringe, London. Her short video, Riverbed Stories, has been shown at Fuse Arts Space, Bradford and the International Independent Film Festival PUBLICYSTYKA, Poland, and is shortlisted for the British Women’s Artist award 2016.
“Williams has created beautifully crafted portraits of the land which also prompt the viewer to think about their own interaction and connection with the world around them” Cary Benbow, Editor, Wobneb Magazine, March 2016
Mandy Williams studied art history at Warwick and Communications (Film) at Goldsmith’s. She lived in Vancouver, Canada for several years, and was represented by a commercial gallery where she had solo exhibitions of photographic and video works, as well as exhibiting in artist-run and public galleries across Canada and the United States. She was awarded a visual arts grant from the Canada Council and had work purchased by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.
Since returning to London she has exhibited in group exhibitions including the London Art Fair, Royal West of England Academy, where she won the prize for photography in 2014 and was a shortlisted Academician candidate in 2015, National Open Art at Somerset House and Royal College of Art, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Deptford X, Kinsale Arts Festival, Ireland, and Raven Row, London, and had a solo exhibition, Waiting for You at House Gallery, London in 2013.
