Born in Edinburgh Julia Lyon grew up in London.  She studied at The University of York and St. Martin’s School of Art and has travelled extensively including living in Madrid, Spain for three years where she found inspiration for her watercolours at the Prado museum.

Julia has exhibited in London, Ramsgate and Goodnestone Park and has work in the private collection of Belinda the Lady Montagu of Beaulieu.

Her inspiration comes from her grandfather Robert Lyon who taught Ashington Miners to paint and he is the basis for Lee Hall’s play and William Feaver’s book, both titled the Pitman Painters.   She believes, as Robert Lyon did before her, that art should be shared by everyone and she feels fortunate in having the time at the age of 63 to devote to painting.
