SEAS Photography & The Sunbeam Collection

July 11th – 17thJuly 2013

10am – 5pm

The exhibition and collection events will show the ongoing work of the UK’s South East Archive of Seaside Photography (SEAS Photography) project which is currently digitally archiving the Sunbeam photographic collection. Sunbeam, was the dominant commercial photographic company which ‘worked’ the Isle of Thanet’s (Margate/Broadstairs/Ramsgate etc) coast.

Along with a number of beautiful Sunbeam photographs, this exhibition offers an opportunity for community participation. We are asking the public to search their old photograph albums and collections to see if they have any Sunbeam ‘Walkies’ photographs.  These found images if brought to the exhibition, will be carefully scanned, attributed to their ‘owner’, catalogued and safely returned. The Walkie images will play a part of the SEAS Photography archive and will contribute to this significant cultural resource.

SEAS Photography is a research project based at Canterbury Christ Church University and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. SEAS Photography Project Director is Dr Karen Shepherdson available at karen.shepherdson@canterbury.ac.uk
