Future Nostalgia presents a retrospective of work by Joanna Hyslop alongside new paintings and works on paper.
Joanna Hyslop is a painter fascinated by the interplay between sight and touch, and between chaos and control. She often uses images generated by touch or captured by means other than the human eye as sources for her paintings and drawings. Through changes of light on the painted surfaces, the images constantly shift, metamorphose, entice and elude. Future Nostalgia is a unique opportunity to view the development of her practice and to discover links, connections and recurring themes.
Joanna studied painting at Chelsea School of Art, and she has twice been selected for the John Moores exhibition (a prize winner in 1995). She has shown her work in London and the wider UK, as well as in Europe and the USA. Exhibitions of her work include Todd Gallery, Mario Flecha, Flowers Gallery, ARCO Madrid, The London Art Fair, The London Group, Aspex Gallery Portsmouth, Winchester Gallery, Whitechapel Open on two occasions, Ikon Gallery Birmingham, Wilhelm Lembruck Museum Duisberg and 123 Watts Gallery New York.
