“It was years ago when I thought about and painted this still life canvas. It was always since the discovery of  John Bratby that I value still life. Its a long story but he founder of the group The Kitchen Sink  Painters. I admired his sense of life, the time that surrounded him. He became very successful painting portraits. Famous people as well as pure humble folk. I decided that John Bratby is my hero. It `was not about the money or to get better at painting. It was the love of paint. Freedom to express how one sees the world and senses life itself. When I grow up I would like to be Lady John Bratby.

“After leaving school at the age of sixteen I spent three years studying at the Medway College of Design. Whilst I was there I successfully completed a course in technical graphics. I went on to work for many years a graphic illustrator for clients in the UK as well as abroad. Now that I have retired I still continue to produce paintings and drawings as commissions, to sell in galleries and for my own enjoyment.

In recent years I have started to work in clay to produce sculptures. I take my inspiration from the work of Hieronymus Bosch, the Italian Commedia dell ‘Art and the mythologies of various cultures. I find it interesting to randomly kneed the clay for awhile, and thereafter examine it to see if I can visualize any form within it that I can develop.
Following this way of working I believe that my sculptures have much in common with the work of Jacqueline Newbury who uses similar methods to produce artwork from the subconscious.”
