TIME TO LOOK– brings together more than 60 paintings made by Suzanne Baker, dating from 1998 to the present. She paints narratives in oils in a loose, intuitive way, working frequently from personal memories. Other paintings in this show have mythological subjects including a series about Callisto and Arcas, based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
Born in Hampshire in 1946 Baker lived and studied in London, moving to Kent five years ago. Her degree in Graphic Design from UAL (London College of Printing) gave her opportunities in publishing, notably magazines. She became Art Director at Vogue Magazine, leaving that world in 1996 to focus on painting, her passion. She has since studied at New York Studio School, and the Turps Studio programme and took part in numerous short courses at The Royal Drawing School. Recent exhibitions include both solo and group exhibitions in London and Kent.
