Margate-based photographer, Eleanor Marriott, will be exploring T.S.Eliot’s poem The Waste Land as part of a programme of events running in parallel with Journeys with ‘The Waste Land’ at Turner Contemporary. It will include standalone images, as well as composites using the graphic design skills of local artist Tony Tooke. It will be the first public viewing of Eleanor’s Indian photography.

Eleanor will be exploring the spiritual side of T.S.Eliot’s poem – in particular the closing words “Shantih shantih shantih” (peace) to transport you from the shelter on Margate sands where the poem was partly written, to India and the ghats of the holy river ‘Ganga’ in Varanasi. This is not only a sacred final resting place for Hindus, but also a place of pilgrimage for India’s holy men and women, the Sadhus and Sadhvis, images of whom are in the exhibition.
