Meet the artists; talk to them, find out why they do what they do and eat cake.

SEAS artists return for our third show at Pie Factory Margate in three years, just three minutes from the Turner Contemporary. Fifteen artists will be showing assemblage, painting, printmaking, photography, photomontage, mosaics, sculpture and textiles. SEAS is an artist group based in Deal. Come and meet the artists among the vibrant art quarters of Margate and nip across the road to Turner Contemporary, where the four shortlisted artists for Turner Prize 2019 will be on show.

Each gallery area has special displays by each artist. The show includes work by the artists listed below. Nicki Vowls has works on show at this year’s Royal Academy Summer Show; Dominic Harper was a prize winner for the Portfolio competition, with work shown at Turner Contemporary this summer and at Canterbury Cathedral next year.

About the artists

Kate Baker Mosaics are inspired by the locality and architecture of Turner Contemporary and in other works the ocean plastic crisis.

Susan Beresford Painterly abstracts explore the effects of weathering, inspired by boat rudders in Deal, Sandwich and Faversham.

Susan Carlyle draws inspiration from sign painting and traditions within fairground and canal communities, playing with colour and movement juxtaposed with different images collected to form new compositions.

Martin Cherry Monochrome photographs, together with colour work, created in a watercolour style, with subdued colours, using various types of Lensbaby lens.

Pam Cutler Watercolour and gouache paintings explore fluid line and vibrant colour. Paintings are based on the effects of light in landscape, focusing on the power and magic of water.

Dominic Harper Photomontages of Deal Boxing Day dip and the March for a People’s Vote at Trafalgar Square. Photographs are taken over the course of an event, then assembled, creating a still movie.

Kath Love Hand embroidered textiles, using recycled fabric, depicting life where the land meets the sea.

Trevor Summerfield Images are personal reflections of life. Conflict, humour, cynicism love and pathos are set in his surrounding landscape.

Sandra Tracey Has worked on a series of assemblages using materials that were found, recycled, discarded or deconstructed, for example from jewellery.

Nicki Vowls Depicts the ferocious conditions which often lead to local ships and boats being wrecked on our shores, capturing the opposing moods of desolation and hope.

Kaye Walls Inspiration for mosaics begins with broken mirrors from friends, leftover tiles, broken china, bottletops and used aluminium cans. Diverse elements are brought to a coherent whole as an image or abstract design.

Mollie Winters New pieces reflect views of Kent, executed in needle felt with surface stitching, some are made in free machine embroidery.

Julie Sumner, Helen Komatsu and Peter Webb will also be showing work, more information on their work will be available at the show.
