Grand Union 12 is a group of professional artists coming together for the first time, proudly presenting work at Pie Factory Margate. The exhibition displays a smorgasbord of diverse talent using ceramics, painting, photography, print and illustration; an eclectic mix of fine art and functional work available for sale.

Grand Union 12 Artists:

Karen Blakemore
My work is about how landscape can convey the feelings of silence and calm but also the incongruity of scarred surfaces representing the damaged human condition. The work is mixed media painting.
‘Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail’
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Reinette Broadhurst
The exhibition is of random moments in time. I feel that life doesn’t have a theme, it just happens by chance. I capture things that are beautiful or interesting; sometimes they are mundane, other times they are exotic.

Danielle Bunker
Earth and flame are the foundations of my work, the pieces are formed by hand and the firing process creates a natural and beautiful aesthetic. My recent visit to Florence has inspired me to experiment with gold and silver leaf.

Mike Burnett
My work centres on the traditions of fine print making and I use techniques and methods learned over a lifetime of practice to create small and intricate pieces.

Debbie Crooks
I find inspiration for my paintings through walking and cycling in the landscape. I want to convey the intensity and the magic of the changing seasons through light, colour and structure.

David Eaton
After a long career as an illustrator and lecturer, I am developing my own work. I like to create images based on places I have visited. I have an ongoing interest in life drawing and I am continuing to explore various techniques to depict the human form.

Julie Keith
February skies are attractive, lots of lines in all directions. I began photographing the tracks in the sky and this is the outcome; a random sequence defined by numeric location.

Alistair Lamb
The play of light upon sensitive materials over time has been a preoccupation for most of my life. Recently, in changed circumstances, I have focused on a wide range of subject matter from which the imagery presented is a distillation.

Bipin Raithatha
Thrown and hand-built earthenware pieces with slip decoration and sgraffito, reflecting my interests in the natural world.

Vivienne Rodwell-Davies
Distinctive hand made ceramics, functional, beautiful to use and individual.

Sarah Rooms-Heaphy
Decorative Porcelain Ceramics: The work has been inspired by coastal seascapes during all weathers. I use colour and texture to create an abstract atmosphere of the sea, harbours and coastline.

Emma Wood
An important aspect of my work is seeing and recording energy and rhythm and I will often attempt to explore and represent my subject by focusing on the way that it moves. The transience of the moment is interesting to me. The process of defining and obliterating is key to exploring something that reveals itself and disappears in the blink of an eye.
